For God So Loved LGBT People

John 3:16 is probably one of the most recognisable Bible verses. I was taught it by my parents when I was a child, probably because it is also such an important Bible verse in that it sums up the gospel in a couple of sentences. The Gospel is that God loved us so much that he sent his son Jesus to take the blame for our sin, so that whoever believes will be forgiven and saved. Notice what it doesn’t say. It doesn’t exclude anyone. It is anyone who believes. Not any straight person, not any good person, not the any devout religious people who know the Bible backwards. It is simply everyone that believes. That’s a promise from God and I believe that God keeps his promises.

Yesterday I stumbled upon a really unpleasant website that tried to argue that telling LGBT people to repent was ‘love’ not ‘hate’ because if we don’t we are bound for hell. That site was written by someone who does not know the basic truth of the Gospel.

As I say elsewhere on this page, it is my firm belief that being gay or trans is not a sin. It’s how God made us and we should celebrate that. But if I am wrong, I have lots and lots of Biblical evidence that shows that God is loving and forgiving and that through Jesus, we are saved. Never let anyone question God’s love for our community or for us as individuals.
