Embrace Teesside was created to provide love, support and encouragement to my fellow members of the LGBT Christian community and to share God’s love with the LGBT people in Teesside and elsewhere. It was established by myself – Simon – a 40 year gay Christian based in Redcar.
It is important to establish a statement of faith so here is mine: I believe that God created the heavens and the earth, I believe that we fell short of his expectations and as a result God sent his son, Jesus, to save us. I believe that the Bible is a true and accurate account of God’s word. What I don’t believe is that God rejects our community.
I believe in a God of love and forgiveness that wants to reach out to the LGBT community and to return those of us who have been exiled from church or faith to his loving embrace – hence the name! I believe in a God who created our community to be rich and diverse like the rest of his creation and I believe that God doesn’t just ‘accept’ or ‘affirm’ LGBT people but that he celebrates us and is proud of his creation.
There will be people who disagree with me and that is fine. As long as you are respectful, you are welcome here.
My hope is that this will lead on to a group or church for LGBT people here in Teesside – if you would be interested in that, please get in touch!
